Protect Workers Now

Protect Workers Now is Jobs With Justice’s campaign to protect workers from immigration-based retaliation. Workers all over the country have been standing up against exploitation, wage theft, sexual abuse, trafficking, and more. They deserve to be able to file complaints without fear of deportation.

The Department of Labor, Department of Homeland Security, and the National Labor Relations Board have the power to protect workers from abusive employers and ICE using immediate deferred action. But they have failed to do so beyond a few one-off cases that make it to Washington, D.C and take months to process.

We are fighting for:

  • DHS and the labor agencies to publish guidance on how they will protect labor and civil rights as well as how workers and their advocates can access the protections.
  • Workers at worksites under labor investigation to be given a letter outlining their rights, protecting them from interference or intimidation from ICE, and enabling them to apply for deferred action with a work permit.
  • All workers at the company under investigation to gain immediate protection from interference or intimidation from ICE.  The Department of Labor (DOL), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) must develop a system so that DHS is immediately notified when a labor complaint is filed with the other agencies.
  • The agencies to do outreach to ensure workers know that if they file a complaint, they will be protected from immigration-based retaliation
