Washington, D.C. – Following today’s announcement that Representative George Miller (D-Calif.) will retire from Congress at the end of this year, Jobs With Justice Executive Director Sarita Gupta issued this statement:

“Over the last four decades, George Miller has made a career of fighting on behalf of working people. He has been a critical ally to the middle class in Congress, most recently as he led the Democrats on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. His legislative record speaks for itself, and he has fought tirelessly to increase the federal minimum wage, to protect workers’ rights to organize and bargain collectively, and to improve workplace safety standards in some of our country’s most dangerous industries. As one of the few remaining members with the backbone to consistently advocate for everyday Americans, he brought a voice to Congress that will be sorely missed.”
