Amy Smoucha brings more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit and program management, community organizing, policy advocacy and coalition building to her role as managing director of Jobs With Justice. Amy started her community organizing career as a grassroots leader in a campaign to keep a public hospital and four community clinics open in St. Louis. She progressed from a leader to a staff member of a welfare rights organization led by people living in poverty. Subsequently she spent more than a decade leading popular education and advocacy campaigns relating to the rights of low-income workers, the need for public benefits programs, and access to health care and legal services.

Amy was a founding board member of Missouri Health Care for All, a grassroots, faith and community-led coalition. Amy also spent six years as a statewide organizer with Missouri Jobs With Justice, leading policy work and coalition-building efforts relating to health care and support for public services and programs. She serves as a lead trainer in the Building Jobs With Justice leadership training. Amy moved to Washington, D.C., in 2012 when she became field director of Families USA. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English from Fontbonne University. She is an avid gardener, gradually replacing her lawn with raised beds, in her home in Chillum, Maryland, where she lives with her partner.
