Washington, D.C. – Following the announcement that President Obama will issue an Executive Order raising the minimum wage for federally contracted workers, Jobs With Justice executive director Sarita Gupta issued the follow statement:
“Millions of federal contract workers, as well as advocates for working families, are thrilled with the news that President Obama will use his presidential authority to raise the minimum wage — so that a hard day’s work ensures a fair day’s pay on which workers and their families can make ends meet. Now it’s time for Congress to take action and raise the minimum wage for all Americans, to literally put their money where their mouths are on dangerous levels of inequality in America. The minimum wage hasn’t been raised since 2007. It’s time we finally raise it — for all Americans — to $10.10 an hour. We will continue to push our nation’s leaders and corporations to put an end to poverty wages in our country.”
